......they shutdown the parking garage at Toronto City Hall and they issue an edict that all city employees pays $25 a day for parking at all city owned properties.
Cycle tips against the car |
Shamez Amlani had me convinced yesterday that "creative things" -- like Pedestrian Sundays -- are a sound first step toward getting people out of their cars and reducing Toronto's smog problems.
After all, I've seen the same concept work -- that is, one of shutting down a certain neighbourhood or street to vehicles on Sundays -- during visits to cities like Quito, Ecuador.
That was until the Kensington Market restaurateur got carried away with talk of having to "tame the beast" -- namely the car -- and likened car use to smoking, a "filthy disgusting habit."
That, folks, is exactly what's wrong with the plethora of supposed "sustainable" transportation initiatives introduced yesterday. The report's anti-car bent simply reinforces the fact the car is secondary, not on the city's clogged streets but most definitely at Socialist City Hall.
In my view the report sends one message to Torontonians, who love their cars no matter how many $3,000 speed humps, stop signs and no-turn signals are thrown in their path: The socialist regime won't rest until they drive the car and business along with it right into the 905.
