Afghanistan: Someone bangs it on the nose

The raging violence in southern Afghanistan should be a wake-up call to western nations, not an excuse to give up, says a new report by a respected international conflict studies group.
The Belgium-based International Crisis Group says there is nothing “inevitable about failure in Afghanistan,” but some major policies of both NATO and the Afghan government must be reconsidered. […]
“The desire for a quick, cheap war followed by a quick, cheap peace is what has brought Afghanistan to the present, increasingly dangerous situation,” says the group, which has a self-appointed mission to prevent and resolve conflicts. (CP)
They include 21 recommendations which can be read on their website.
