I guarantee you if John Tory had been elected Mayor the City Of Toronto would be much different. John Tory proved he had business sense, United Way, Rogers Cable, etc. but he also has political smarts meaning he would have gone to the table with the province and feds with reasonable demands and solutions not cap in hand begging. Feds 'failed cities'
Mayor says money is badly needed for transit
By ZEN RURYK, CITY HALL BUREAU CHIEF
The federal government failed to feed cash-hungry cities badly needed money for transit, Mayor David Miller says.
He gave yesterday's federal budget a thumbs down, saying it failed to address the needs of Canada's large cities.
Mayors from across Canada are calling for a national transit strategy, 1 cents of the GST, and for the senior levels of government to pick up the costs they have downloaded on municipalities, Miller said.
'CONCRETE STEPS' NEEDED
"We had expected at an absolute minimum to see concrete steps towards a national transit strategy in this budget. Those steps have not been taken," he said. "The budget, really -- for the City of Toronto and for Canada's other major cities -- is a step backward."
