Charles Adler's Comments on Atheism
Monday, May 14, 2007
As AM 640 Radio Toronto 's John Oakley said the other day with all the books coming out questioning the existence of God, it appears this is marching season for atheists. But is it? Yes Richard Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens both have books out dissing the idea of God and naturally atttacking those who are the worst examples of those who in the name of God do things that are anything but Godly. But while there are authors who speak in favor of skepticism, atheism and secularists and they sell a lot of books, can you find a single book that over the long haul outsells the so called good book? The Bible. Don't expect hotel rooms to have Christopher Hitchens God is not Great in their drawers. While Hitch is entertaining as hell, as long as most mainstream religion keeps promoting the idea of everlasting life they will continue to corner the market on optimism. Skepticism may sell well now and then in a bookstore...but optimism sells better in the shopping mall known as the human heart.
