- John Oakley: David Suzuki's Orwellian world
-
For those who have wondered how it is that David Suzuki carries the mantle as this country’s pre-eminent protector of the planet, the answer is now in: it’s Doctor Suzuki’s world, we just live in it.
With the typical imperiousness of someone weaned on the public teat at the CBC, Suzuki can’t come to terms with the fact that there are people out there who don’t necessarily subscribe to his world view. In two recent speeches in Toronto and Montreal, Suzuki has called for political leaders who ignore the science on climate change to be thrown in jail. He actually said that, out loud.
Failing to act on the incontrovertible evidence of man-made global warming as served up by the Suzuki-Gore school is likened to a crime against humanity. Hold a dissenting position and it’s off to the gulag for thought crimes; at the very least, re-education camps for apostates in media and academe. In other words, Suzuki is so fixed in his sanctimony he’d forego such civil liberties as public debate and the time-honoured process of democratic persuasion. The planet may, in fact, be warming, but in David Suzuki’s world there’s a chill.
John Oakley can be heard from 5:45 a.m.-10 a.m. EST Monday to Friday on AM 640 Toronto Radio
