Matt Gurney: U.S. says 75% of youth too fat, dumb or drugged to qualify for military

Some time ago, while sitting in on a policy workshop discussing yet another whimsical plan for peace in the Middle East, I lost my temper. After two hours of babble about international summits, UN resolutions and the need to find "common ground" (since Israelis and Hezbollah have so much in common), I offered my own unorthodox road map for the region.

"Short of nuking the entire area, our best chance at success is making them all as fat and lazy as we are. We'll have finally achieved something the day a terrorist, faced with the choice between lobbing a rocket into Israel or finishing the level on his xBox game, decides that killing the infidel can wait a day, and reaches for a fresh bag of Doritos."

Obviously, I was kidding. It seems, though, that at least one major player in Middle Eastern geopolitics took the idea to heart. Problem is, it isn't the terrorists. It's the United States.

According to a recent report, 75% of Americans between the ages 17-24 are unfit for military service, mostly because they're too fat, too stupid or too drugged to qualify.
