- The Liberals' super-secret budget position: Bitch a lot

Best as I can tell, this is the Liberal position on the budget, based on recent statements by the party leadership:
1. Something absolutely must be done about the deficit. Like, seriously. We mean it.
2. The Liberals are against tax increases. Well, not totally ... If the Tories were to jack up the GST a point, the Liberals would shriek gleefully about Stephen Harper's big mistake in reducing it in the first place, about how devastating the increase would be on hard-pressed Canadians, how higher taxes are not the answer ... But would breathe a huge sigh of relief that Harper bit the bullet, saving them from doing so if they ever get the chance.
3.There must be no spending cuts on any program popular with Canadians. And since there is always someone, somewhere who gets the benefit of any individual spending program, that means no cuts at all.
