Independent Quebec must pay own way

It’s been said that those in Quebec who want independence for their province and those outside Quebec who are happy let them go represent “two sides of the same coin.”

Maybe that’s why I’m not that upset that former Sun Media boss Pierre Karl Peladeau has confirmed his desire to separate Quebec from Confederation. I’m unperturbed even if his declared candidacy improves the Parti Quebecois’ chance of winning a majority in the April 7 provincial election and even if a PQ win increases the likelihood that province will hold yet another referendum on independence.

I’m one of those in the rest of Canada who doesn’t want Quebec to go, but who also refuses to lift a finger to convince them to stay.
