Information Overload

I have to admit that much of my insight into 9/11 is driven by the media and if I had to sit down and have a serious debate all I could offer is that it was a horrific act, it was committed by a group of nutbars, that they should all be drawn and quartered along with those who put forward conspiracy theories and those that rationalize that the nutbars were justified because of perceived injustices by the United States. I also have to admit that I have enough on my plate right now and couldn't do the necessary reading (shame on me) but when I do have time I would probably follow Lorrie's recommendations.

When Editorial Page Editor Linda Williamson asked me to write about 9/11 today in anticipation of tomorrow's fifth anniversary of that terrible event, I wondered what I could possibly contribute that hasn't been said better elsewhere.

I decided there was nothing. So instead, I'm offering a primer of what I consider to be some of the best books available to help understand the origins of 9/11 and its aftermath.

I recommend them not as an exclusive or exhaustive list, but simply as works I have found useful, readable and informative.
