I am not a 100% sure. I know the hotel has been charged but I haven't read anything saying Penn was charged.Thursday, September 14, 2006
Miller's Gang Enforce Laws - Petty Ones
posted by Tor Poli @ 8:52 AMThe M's that run city hall (Miller, Mihevc, McConnell, Moscoe) reward their friends and penalize their foes.
Nothing all that new about that statement.
But the reason that I'm making it is their latest charlie foxtrot - the fining of Sean Penn for smoking at a TIFF news conference.
Now I don't like what I see and read about Penn - he gets way over his head in political opinion - slightly less inane than Charlie Sheen, but inane all the same. He makes a point of slugging cameramen and others either to show displeasure or to get media attention. But Penn is a member of the economic (if not intellectual) elite.
But that's not my point.
Acting on information from a civilian and after watching Rogers Cable 10, they fluttered all around Sutton Place trying to pin somebody down to admit to a terrible crime. Smoking. Penn had the audacity to have a cigarette while being interviewed for global media. Obviously Miller can't have that - a millionaire scoffing the smoking law, so all of miller's men went scurrying to nail him.
Meanwhile, across the street at Bistro 990, two years ago, Miller's bylaw thugs saw fit to lay overcrowding charges. Now, I don't go out often, but when I do clubs all over town but especially in the entertainment district are so above their legal limit that it's pretty much impossible to get out, much less in. How many of these scofflaws been fined? Well it cost the Bistro $450,000 to fight their battle, could the charge be because this uptown hotspot is peopled by folks from north of Bloor?
And over the summer, the most political noise has been over the Docks and the Islanders. And once again Miller and his henchwomen (Fletcher and McConnell) have pulled out all the stops to penalize the millionaire owned of this landmark nightclub. There's talk that there are all kinds of abuses, jurisdiction infringement, conflicts of interest, etc. by the Miller Gang.
All the city's millionaire bad boys better watch out, Miller's coming to get you.

One thing I have repeatedly noticed is an almost boycott by Toronto median of even mentioning conservative candidates such as former City of Toronto councillor John Adams.
