Working Isn't For Everyone

What a profound statement! It was made by an "urban expert" in response to a "workfare" program being tried in Winnipeg in an attempt to deal with the homelessness problem. There is no question that there might be reasons people can't work but I would be hard pressed to find a rationale reason why if a person is accepting the largesse of his "neighbor" that person should not make a contribution to the public purse.

BTW Toronto's No Plan B Mayor Miller goes with the urban experts (social in-activists) when it comes to putting the homeless to work.....he would rather increase the number of highly paid union workers and maintain the votes of his union bosses.

The city of Winnipeg is launching a pilot project that aims to give homeless people a chance to go from living on the streets to cleaning them as a first step towards getting back into the workforce.

Similar programs have been successful in Baltimore, Maryland, and Kenora, Ont. While many support the project, some experts warn that it won't work for everyone, given that many homeless people have both mental and physical health problems.
