You Can't Blame Whitey All The Time

Street crime has had it's 10 minutes in the spotlight and I applaud those people who are down in the trenches trying to make a difference but the politcos and media should be ashamed of not getting into the trenches and making sure these people are getting the help they need. The incident that occurred during this "march" is disgusting.......

Protesting `culture of silence' on killing
Sep. 10, 2006. 01:00 AM

Nearly 60 people gathered in the Flemingdon Park area yesterday to march against the community's culture of silence which has frustrated police investigating the beating death of a 17-year-old.

Dozens watched Omar Wellington being attacked in July, but nobody called 911. "I am hoping that they will call the police and tell (them) what they did see," said Omar's mother, Joy Wellington.
When the marchers reached the townhouse complex near where it happened, they beckoned for a small group of women standing there to join them."I want justice, too," said one of the women, who did not want to give her name, or join the marchers, out of fear for her safety. "It's a lot more difficult to say that if you live in this neighbourhood."

As the marchers chanted "We want justice! We want peace!" someone outside a highrise threw a glass bottle near them.

The marchers slowed. One refused to be intimidated. Nadia Beckles turned around, clutching a photo of her son Amon, shot dead outside his best friend's funeral last November."We still want justice and we still want peace for Omar Wellington," she shouted in defiance.

Last word: In the final analysis this blog is a relief valve for my rants/raves.
