Raise MPPs' pay to attract the best

Most Ontarians can only dream of giving themselves a whopping big pay raise. But that is what elected politicians are about to do at Queen's Park.
In a move that has sparked some public outrage, the Ontario government introduced a bill this week to increase MPPs' base salaries by 25 per cent, to about $110,000 a year from $88,771. The proposed pay raise, which has the support of the Conservatives but not the New Democrats, could pass by Tuesday and go into effect immediately.
Premier Dalton McGuinty originally opposed the raise. But after listening to Liberal caucus members, he said yesterday that he changed his mind "because I thought it was the right thing to do."
McGuinty is on solid ground in arguing that provincial politicians deserve more pay. But he could have implemented it in a better way.

The Star Believes MPPs Are Second Best
Or at least that is the message you get if your support their logic behind supporting the pay increase for MPPs. We know that this is really not the case.....like life you have have everything from the towel boys to bench warmers to home run hitters.
