Layton Needs A Primer On Political Responsibilities

I don't disagree with Jack on the need to recognize immigrant's qualifications but he should be sitting down and talking to the provincial premier's....or maybe he could put forward a private member's bill that says if Immigration Canada confirms that an applicant's qualifications have been confirmed then they are automatically recognized across the country. Try that on for size Jack......

Foreign skills not a fed issue: PM
By JORGE BARRERA, NATIONAL BUREAU

OTTAWA -- Prime Minister Stephen Harper says his government can do little alone to help highly skilled and educated immigrants who can't get their credentials recognized in Canada.

Harper, responding to a question period query from NDP Leader Jack Layton, said the problem falls in provincial jurisdiction.

"(Layton) is not correct when he suggests that this problem could be totally resolved by the federal government acting itself," the PM said. "He should know, and all members of the House should know, that many professional and other credentials are recognized at the provincial level, not at the federal level."
