Belinda Stronach, liberal, cuts and runs
Posted by Joel Johannesen
According to my reading of the news in the liberals’ state-run media (CBC Internet mind ...um… -"mate" division) liberals are ...excruciatingly predictable pantywaists. (They say it using other words because it’s liberals talking about other liberals, duh.)
It’s actually getting a little boring. For once, I’d like to read about a liberal who, faced with a so-called “principled” fight (even by their definition of “principle"), horrible odds of winning that fight, and a big bloody battle ahead —like that in Afghanistan or Iraq, say —publicly promise to fight on and win no matter what. That would wake me up. But this? No. Entirely predictable.
Liberal MP Belinda Stronach says she is quitting politics to return to Magna International and intends to accept a position with the auto parts company immediately.
Stronach, who currently holds the seat in the Toronto-area riding of Newmarket-Aurora, said in a release Wednesday that she will not run for re-election.
Instead, she is going to step into the role of executive vice-chair in the company founded by her father, Frank.
“I am always assessing the best role I can play in public life, and, after being encouraged by members of the corporate leadership at Magna to return, I have decided that the timing of my return to the business should not be delayed,” Stronach said in the release. [Joel scratches chin and says.... “Huh?"]
Stronach was elected in 2004 as a Conservative, but made a high-profile floor-crossing to enter then-Liberal Prime Minister Paul Martin’s cabinet in May 2005. [Joel says: She “accepted” that role as well, and “stepped into it”. It still stinks and she’s still trying to scrape it off her shoe.]
Clearly there’s a Conservative victory on the horizon according to Belinda Stronach’s crack team of awesome fortune tellers and soothsayers.
