Bottom line is these "consultations" are a joke albeit an expensive joke........From Eye Weekly readers......
I don’t understand the sudden controversy over the “new” system - it’s how Miller’s “Listening to Toronto” sessions happened in 2004, how the consultations on the new police chief selection process happened in 2005, and how the governance structure consultations were structured in 2006. There were probably others I’m missing.
I agree, though, that most people were probably upset about the revenue meeting structure only because they wanted to be seen “taking a stand” against the evil bureaucracy. In a society which equates spectacle with engagement, it’s enough to a lot of folks to stand in front of a room of people and repeat everyone that came before you, I guess - rather than engage with people as people and actually listen.

I went to a street furniture meeting where everyone was against what the City wanted to do. We then broke into smaller groups that all opposed what the City wanted to do. Then we all got back into a large group again of people who were opposed to what the City wanted to do. Then the City this year did what it wanted to do.
