First of all, the poll says that Conservative Leader John Tory is the public's preferred choice for premier, by a margin of 36 per cent to 26 per cent over the incumbent, Dalton McGuinty, with 38 per cent undecided.
And in Ottawa:
Will you vote for Stephen Harper in the next election? | ||||
YES | 56% | | ||
NO | 44% |
With conservative led governments in Ottawa and Queen's Park I would hope that we would see a little more movement to the right when it comes to fiscal responsibility which will encourage investors to invest which hopefully create more well paying full time jobs and a buoyant economy.
If Toronto voters want to share in this bonanza they are going to have to send more conservatives to Ottawa and Queen's Park because no matter how you cut it party leaders have to support the local representatives.

vote tory or you won't get any benefits. Sounds like bribery to me.
I might remind you who showed enough fiscal responsibility to help turn the financial mess around in the first place.
I suggest voting for the one you feel will best represent your area. And that doesn't mean voting for the party that may form a government.
Isn't that what politics is all about....getting what you feel is important. If you gain then is could be viewed as bribery.
And as far as your comment; "I might remind you who showed enough fiscal responsibility to help turn the financial mess around in the first place." it is nice to finally see that you recognize Harris as the one who brought us back from the brink of bankruptcy. No all the way but back from the edge.
At the local level I agree to a point...but in this case it is a "anyone but mcginty" time. Mike Colle has bitten the bullet for the party but could still be elected.
Well isn't that rich. After all the rukus we endured about how accountable and 'for Canadians' the conservatives were supposed to be, one of their supporters openly endorses the idea that if you don't vote for a tory member in your area, you might not get the support (money) from Ottawa.
I might not be "entitled" you say?
After all the accusations thrown at the liberals for the very same thing, you mean to tell me the conservatives are just as 'hand in the pockets' as the liberals were?
well holy hell. How do you like that.
Harris did indeed turn the tide from Ontario going bankrupt. I think anyone tory or liberal could see that it had to be done. It was the methods, and the unnecessary nonsense (like the city almagamation and painting single mothers on welfare as biker chicks to name a couple).
Not giving people a couple hundred dollars over a year for a tax cut, not cutting, slashing wrecklessly, and reinvesting into health care etc -as it should have been done- (not just adding what we absolutely HAD to as Harris did) would have put us in a far better position and would have been far more prudent, and would have maintained services better.
There is nothing wrong with cutting the fat and making services efficient, but Harris sucked at it. Period.
And I doubt many disagree with me now. Or they wouldn't have been turfed in the last election.
Proof positive.
I disagree.......
so. You think the almagamation was a good thing. No plan to implement, or to ensure the city did the right things. You think the things like painting single mothers on benefits as biker chicks and slashing their benefits was a good thing? My sister, sometime before that time was beaten badly by her husband (who I have always hated) and found herself in serious trouble with 2 kids. She found herself on mother's allowance. Thankfully, before Harris came in and stated slashing, there was a training program offered to single mothers and she took advantage of it. Harris cut the program but she was able to finish it and was able to get a decent job because of it and was able to get off mother's allowance. Many, weren't so lucky.
Was that common sense?
So perhaps many of us, can enjoy the dvd player or flat screen tv we could buy with our tax cut.
Now, on the flipside, I knew of a person who liked welfare. He got a welfare cheque in Ottawa, and then went to Kingston, and got another one. He discovered that the computer systems weren't connected between cities, and the chances of being discovered were slim to none. I bet that wasn't an uncommon event.
To me, there is middle ground between good fiscal responsibility, and unprecedented spending. I think it's called, 'common sense'.
Something I certainly didn't see under Harris, and I am suspicious of Dalton, who I have always disliked.
Exactly.
