Taxman eyes cops' pay duty
By TOM GODFREY, Toronto Sun
Some 3,500 Toronto Police officers who take extra work on their days off are being audited by the Canada Revenue Agency over their “paid duty” assignments.
...police officers are taking "paid duty" for which they get paid over and above their salaries and they park at station parking lots. CRA wants them to pay taxes for parking for those times they are not actually "on duty." Sorry fellows I agree with CRA. If my employer provides parking at no charge it is considered a taxable benefit. One proviso...it applies to all police departments.
