Line Snaps In Fight For Fairness, Christie Blatchford, Dec. 21.
Christie Blatchford may not agree with the recent decision of the Supreme Court of Canada to dismiss the appeal of non-native fishermen convicted of offences for participating in a protest fishery to challenge native fishing rights. But that is no reason to state that the rule of law has been tossed under the bus. The protesters had their day in court, a decision was made, and their convictions were upheld. Disagreement with the law is not the same as a failure of the law. Ms. Blatchford has missed the bus in her assessment of the function and purpose of the Canadian judicial system.
Jesse McCormick, Chippewas of the Thames First Nation, Vancouver.
Jesse might want to champion her/his position with the Indians who on a regular basis break the law with boycotts, blockades, etc. and a prime example was the Caledon debacle. I think it is Jessie who missed the bus...
