Economy Is In the dumper, Layoffs are Inceasing, EI Claims Are Increasing, Etc. But......

.....if you try to help yourself you run into the beauracracy and I agree that improper disposal of "garbage" can create a hazard but if the "hazard" is that severe wouldn't that strengthen the case to make garbage collectors essential workers?

Hauling trash for a buck could cost you

By ANTONELLA ARTUSO, QUEEN'S PARK BUREAU CHIEF

People looking to make a quick buck hauling their neighbour's trash away are running afoul of the law.

Anyone charging a fee to remove garbage requires a certificate of approval issued by the ministry of the environment, spokesman Kate Jordan said.

There's no set fine for hauling waste without proper approval, as it varies according to the amount of garbage, where it was dumped and if it caused any "adverse effects," Jordan said.

If the environment was harmed, the minimum fine would be $5,000 and the maximum fine would be $4 million per day.

"It would be a violation under the Environmental Protection Act and we take any violations of the EPA seriously," Jordan said.

GOODWILL GESTURE

"If (residents) have suspicions that someone in their area is operating without the proper approvals they can call that complaint in and we will follow up." Concerned citizens should call the province's Spills Action Centre at 416-325-3000.

Offering to take someone's garbage to a proper disposal site as a goodwill gesture doesn't require a licence.

But someone who charges a fee, no matter how small, must be able to convince the ministry that they can do it safely.

That includes those enterprising citizens with a pickup truck are willing to take the trash for $1 to $2 a bag.

"You need to have approval from the ministry to be a waste hauler, and that's to make sure you have the proper training and qualifications and certification to make sure that you can haul the waste properly," Jordan said.

"If you're taking municipal household waste you have to make sure you're taking it to a site that can accept that," she said. "Of course, if it's hazardous waste, then you have to make sure that you are taking it to a site that can deal with and accept the hazardous waste."

Down in the dumps

It's the pits alright.

Things Might Be Done "In His Name" But Not His Behest

Obama’s Enemies List Grows

Posted by Jack On June - 8 - 2009 16 COMMENTS

enemies_thumbJust having the appearance of someone who might possibly vote for an opponent of Barack Obama could land them on the President’s enemies list where proxies do the dirty work. Political appointees in the Justice Department killed a six-month investigation by career DOJ lawyers into the most blatant voter intimidation case in 40 years. Last November, jack-booted, uniformed, baton-wielding thugs from the New Black Panther Party calling themselves “security” obstructed a Philadelphia polling location and behaved in an intimidating manner toward white voters.

Days after dismissing charges against the menacing thugs, the Justice Department moved in the opposite direction by blocking responsible steps to stem voter fraud. The DOJ barred the administrative procedures Georgia authorities put into place – under federal court guidance — to verify voter registrations. The DOJ claimed the procedures violated the rights of minority voters.

A de facto Obama enemies list and dirty political machine have been expanding since last year. Obama has established several embarrassing presidential firsts including targeting private individuals by names, assigning a well-known “partisan dirt-digger” and non-lawyer to the White House Counsel’s Office to likely gain access to Bush Administration documents protected under attorney-client privilege, and moving the senior political advisor into the West Wing. These are heretofore unseen partisan practices.

Response To Obama"s Reaching Out......

Just say the word...

...and thy will be done:

Obama's belief in dialogue, in the winning power of friendly humility, will be tested not by the reaction to his speeches, but by the success or failure of his smiling overtures to those now hostile to our country. The results so far: Osama bin Laden has denounced him, Kim Jong-Il has mocked him by launching rockets and rattling his centrifuge, Mahmoud Ahmadinijad has defied him, and European leaders have refused his requests for more NATO troops and centrally planned economic stimulus programs.
(....)
To believe that these and other such initiatives will succeed, one has to believe that other nations and peoples are motivated primarily by a desire to get along with others, and not a desire to acquire more power, land, prestige, or influence. One has to believe that the desire for power and status stems not from human nature, but from outside factors -- such as a misplaced fear of American intentions, or a misunderstanding of a rival's point of view. Fix the outside causes of their hostility, and people will revert to their natural, peaceful state.

Got peace if you want it, eh?

What Law Says You Must Have A Credit Card?

National Post editorial board: Giving credit even where it's not due
Posted: May 23, 2009, 1:00 PM by NP Editor

It's understandable that government would be keen on regulating the credit card industry. It's based, at least in part, on the hope that customers will be unable to pay their bills and will thus be trapped in a web of obscure fees and ruinous interest rates. Credit card firms would protest that characterization -- and it does ignore the useful roles credit cards play -- but it's the view held by many Canadians.

How did this come about? Credit cards were originally issued by a few department stores and gas stations to make it easier to shop without carrying around wads of cash. Interest rates were higher than usual, but if you paid your bills every month you didn't have to worry. Eventually all-purpose cards like Visa and Mastercard came along, enabling consumers to use one card for virtually any purpose.

Dylan's teenage poem actually by Canada's Hank Snow
It was a proud Christie's auction house that revealed this week that an upcoming sale of Bob Dylan memorabilia would include a poem written at summer camp when he was only 16 years old.

Democracy In Action?

Money talks, and in Ottawa it's saying: No election this year
Posted: May 01, 2009,

If further proof was needed that the improving fortunes of the Liberals is a nightmare for the New Democratic Party, the latest figures on party fundraising provide it.

According to Pundits Guide, the Conservatives took in $4,361,540.04 in the first quarter of 2009, down almost $600,000, or about 10%, from last year. But NDP donations are down 50%, to just $595,611.

The Liberals, with a new executive director and increased focus on fixing their ailing fundraising efforts, increased their take by $1 million in the first quarter, roughly equivalent to the amount lost by the other two parties.

You can't run a national election campaign on the kind of money the NDP is bringinging in -- at least not the big-spending kind of campaign Jack Layton bragged of last year -- especially when the same donors are being asked to finance a provincial election in B.C.

So don't expect to see Mr. Layton in any big hurry to bring down Stephen Harper.
