Punish he Victim....Reward The Perp

Behold!

The unparalleled success of "creative", progressive sentencing...

A infamous robber dubbed 'Canal Boy' when he was just 13 years old after he was taken on a three-month narrowboat holiday to stop him committing crimes, has fallen foul of the law again.

[..]

In the late Nineties Bowen was one of a number of young offenders who appeared to be rewarded for their crimes by being taken on holiday at public expense or given excessive pocket money in a bid to steer them away from crime.

'Safari Boy' Mark Hook, who was taken to Africa and Egypt for 88 days, and 'Pocket Money Boy' Casey Bowen, who was given £60 a week by social services, have both also been jailed this year for their latest crimes.

Not unlike a man who gets a "sentencing circle" as punishment for leaving his 2 daughters to freeze to death, on a drunken midnight excursion.

Defining Liberalism......

Raphael Alexander: It's not our fault. We're victims
Posted: November 02, 2009, 3:15 PM by NP Editor

I often think that the main difference between a conservative and a liberal is in the belief that individuals should take personal responsibility for their own actions. A conservative believes in a punitive solution to theft, while a liberal believes in reforming the “root causes of socioeconomic inequalities” that led to the theft. A conservative believes reform of drug and alcohol addiction ultimately relies on the individual responsibility, while the liberal believes drugs and alcohol are a “disease” to be treated by public funds.

In the following article, while the failure of the Conservative program aimed at bringing in temporary workers into Canada is evident, the Liberal deflection from the illegal worker to the government is not an equal distribution of blame:

Foreigners in Canada on temporary work permits are being pushed into Toronto’s underground economy by the recession and a controversial federal program that leaves them vulnerable to abuse, a Star investigation has found.

They include people like Tony, a 29-year-old Honduran, who left his Alberta farm job after complaining of long hours and lower-than-promised wages. He rode a bus to Toronto in mid-September with two fellow Hondurans from the same farm. He now works illegally renovating homes, and his friends work illegally cleaning schools.

Do you understand that? It isn’t the illegal migrant violating the terms of his residency in Canada that is the problem; it is the federal government that leaves them “vulnerable to abuse”. It isn’t the illegal migrant choosing to work under the table, not contributing to a generous Canadian social security system; it is the federal government that pushes him to the black market.

I Agree And Rightly So.......

It is an insult to those who were murdered, their family, their friends and everyone who believes people should pay for their sins.

We would go berserk

What if Paul Bernardo got sick and they let him go home to die?

Raging against Pan Am bomber's freedom -- for a victim

Maybe it's because I'm of Scottish descent that I feel so ashamed today. Maybe it's because I have a hard time connecting the dots when discussions about terrorists revolve around the word "compassion" rather than "justice."

Charles Lewis: Lockerbie release reflects misplaced 'compassion'
Posted: August 20, 2009, 5:05 PM by NP Editor

The decision to release Lockerbie bomber Abdel Basset Ali al-Megrahi from prison was done on "compassionate" grounds, we have been told.
The Libyan terrorist, who blew up a plane over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988, resulting in the death of 270 people, is dying of prostate cancer. And so it was decided he would be allowed to go home to Libya, after serving eight years of a life sentence, to spend his last days among the living.
In a prepared statement, Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill said compassion was "a defining characteristic of Scottish people." And that supposedly explains and justifies the decision to let a terrorist go back home instead of spending his remaining days behind bars, as his sentence properly called for.

Lockerbie bomber returns to cheering crowds in Libya

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama urged Libya not to give a hero's welcome to the convicted perpetrator of the Pan Am 103 bombing, who was released from a Scottish prison Thursday over U.S. objections. Hours later Abdel Baset al-Megrahi arrived in Tripoli to a festive greeting by thousands. 20 August

Public Condemnation Only Vocal While It Is Media Event

Tories: Get tough on recidivism

By DAVE BREAKENRIDGE

If this doesn't suggest something's wrong with how things are done, it's hard to imagine what will.

Sure, this time of year, in the dog days of summer, it doesn't take much to rouse the law-and-order type from his deck chair.

But if Prime Minister Stephen Harper really wants to reform the justice system and make Canadians feel safer, he could start with people like Norman Eli Larue.

Larue was arrested in a small town east of Calgary this week, charged, along with a woman, in the murder of a man in the Whitehorse area in 2008.

The kicker?

At the time of this alleged crime Larue, deemed a long-term offender by the courts, was supposed to be serving a 5 1/2-year sentence for sexual assault.

The problem?

He was at large from a Vancouver area halfway house -- for the second time.

That someone who the parole board believes warrants monitoring by police for 10 years was even granted a stint in a halfway house is bad enough, but that he wasn't turfed back behind bars after his first disappearance is more alarming.

That he may have killed a 62-year-old during a second absence suggests he shouldn't have been given that sort of leeway to begin with.

His isn't the only case, to be sure.

THE SAME NEIGHBOURHOOD

In another recent example, a man who did time for breaking into a teen girl's home and raping her was allegedly caught peeping into a woman's home, violating his release conditions.

What's more disturbing, this alleged parole breach happened in the same neighbourhood as the original crimes.

Newspapers across the country are filled with stories of lax sentencing given to people who wind up as repeat offenders of the most heinous crimes.

If there's any real justice, we will see rapists, molesters and child porn purveyors handed the kind of sentences that are warranted for people who have a troubling recidivism rate.

The Tories talk about being tough on crime, but if that's the case, they need to get tougher for scum like this.
