Why Has It Taken So Long...
By CHRIS DOUCETTE, Toronto Sun
As many as 100 veterans are believed to be living on the streets of Toronto, but now there is help for those who have so proudly served our country.

When Has Peace Been Acheived By Wearing A Button & Supporting Deserters
11.11
Many of my friends are wearing a white poppy today.
I appreciate that idea, but it doesn't work for me. I wear my peace button every day. Today is no different. I remember the war dead, and the wounded, and the shattered lives, the ruined cities, the orphans, the widows, the tortured, the disappeared.
I post the same statement every year on November 11:
Honour the dead by working for peace.

- Peter Stoffer: Improving our veterans' lives
- Posted: November 10, 2009, 10:00 AM by NP Editor
- On Remembrance Day, Canadians will pay tribute to the service and sacrifice of our veterans and currently serving Canadian Forces (CF) and RCMP personnel. We will honour the living and remember the fallen.
But recalling the great sacrifices and contributions of these men and women also carries with it a great responsibility. As a nation, we must ensure that CF and RCMP veterans, along with their families, are well cared for — from the moment they sign up to serve our country to the moment they pass away.
In recent years, we have seen improvements to a number of veteran’s benefits, including Operational Stress Injury Social Support Centres, wellness and transition programs under the new Veterans Charter and assistance for allied veterans now living in Canada. Although these programs are certainly a step in the right direction, there is much more we can do to improve the lives of veterans and their families. That is why New Democrats continue to press this Conservative government to implement key reforms for programs and services for veterans and their families.

Little Enough To Ask

Remembrance Day: A Nova Scotia town's heavy burden
The bumper sticker on Robin and Paulette Tedford's red Ford pickup truck is as direct as they come. "If you don't stand behind our troops," it reads beneath a Canadian flag, "feel free to stand in front of them." The message might seem jingoistic and surprising in peace-loving Canada, but the sticker is a hot item in this small central Nova Scotia town, and nobody here would think to question the Tedfords' right to display it.
Thanks to Dr. Roy.....R.I.P. Sapper Steven Marshall
I am deeply saddened to read of this news. This is a very heavy price to pay for freedom. My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of this brave soldier. He will never be forgotten. He died for freedom.
"He was eager to get out and make a difference," said Brig.-Gen. Jonathan Vance, the commander of Task Force Kandahar, who described Marshall as "a man of action" who would "be remembered as the life of his section."
"He had an incredible sense of humour and a contagious grin that never left his face, even during the most difficult moments. He would embrace any situation and always found and shared that silver lining with his mates."
The 24-year-old soldier was a combat engineer with the 11th Field Squadron, 1st Combat Engineer Regiment. The unit is attached to the Edmonton-based 1 Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry battle group, which only took over from the Quebec-based Royal 22nd Regiment two weeks ago.
