Last year it was aids, the year before it was world hunger, today it is the environment, tomorrow ????????......there is no question we raised awareness but didn't make a dent in the problem but we probably make a few social in-activists wealthy.
Global warming? Like we care
By LORRIE GOLDSTEIN
Let me pose to you today that the conventional political/media wisdom that Canadians care deeply about global warming is wrong.
That radical environmentalists -- led by their Pied Piper, Al Gore -- have overplayed their hand by trying to scare us all to death.
That most of us are now engaged in a cynical game with our politicians when it comes to climate change.
A game in which, as journalist George Monbiot writes in Heat: How to Stop the Planet From Burning, we say we care about global warming, as long as we don't have to do anything drastic about it.
Oh, we'll tolerate politicians babbling about global warming.
As long as they don't savage our way of life, which we'd have to do given that we're 35% behind our 2008 to 2102 Kyoto target of reducing man-made greenhouse gas emissions to an average of 6% below 1990 levels.. (And Kyoto is just the start.)
