One reason for these new hirings is that the province quickly coughed up some of the cash only after Premier Dalton McGuinty along with Mayor David Miller and his goofy, left-wing city council had to be dragged kicking and screaming into the realization that putting more cops on our streets is actually a pretty good way to fight crime. (Who knew?)
Remember last year's "summer of the gun"? Public outrage over that led more than anything else to this hiring wave.

Two points.....
* We have 150 new officers taking to the streets BUT this doesn't mean we have 150 more officers on the streets. With retirements and resignations the force is still understaffed.
* You have to wonder how many innocent lives could have been saved if John Tory had been elected.
