Stephen Harper -The Strategist

Harper is tackling his election promises by forcing the opposition to go along or force an election something which I don't think the public wants and certainly something the opposition parties don't want because they are in such dissary that they would lose seats.

I can't think of any reason the opposition, and the public, wouldn't support Senate reforms.

Harper warns senators he'll get his way

OTTAWA—Prime Minister Stephen Harper is warning Canada's appointed senators that they'll pay a political price with Canadians if they stand in the way of his plans for an elected Senate. Those plans, the subject of an historic appearance by a prime minister at a Senate committee hearing yesterday, could see voters casting ballots for senators by the next federal election, Harper said. But he warned that if the Senate is unco-operative or obstructionist, even in the early stages of the process toward an elected Senate, he would detour around them — and Canadians could judge the senators accordingly.
