I Would Go One Step Further........

.....and forget the leave of absence. Let them resign. I have to wonder how many of you work for employers who would allow you to take a leave of absence while you look for another job. Who does your work while you on this leave of absence?

Councillors should have to quit to run

Adam Vaughan rightly asked Toronto council last night to approve a policy requiring any city councillor who wants to run for higher office, including himself, to take an unpaid leave of absence while doing so.

The motion passed 30-13. In the end, it was moved by Coun. Mike Del Grande.

It requests the province amend the City of Toronto Act so any incumbent councillor wanting to run provincially or federally must take an unpaid leave of absence during the formal election period known as the writ.

This is long overdue.

Too many city councillors have used their job -- with its generous pay and perks -- as a guaranteed soft landing, in case their efforts to run for higher office flop.
