Not surprisingly, Stephane Dion is in full backpedal mode. Yesterday he said he would be satisfied to let Canadians suffer economically if it meant he could hold on to his job as Liberal Party leader.
Yes, that's what he said.
Read more...Liberals conveniently forget that Paul Martin solved the budget problems by reducing transfer payments to the have provinces which in turn caused these provinces to reduce spending to municipalities which caused the municipalities to put an additional burden on their citizens by imposing higher taxes and fees. It is these same liberals who voted for change in Ontario and got liberal Pinochio McGinty. What hs he done to solve the problems? Talk about twits.......
Senior Liberals are opening discussing a coup with reporters. Stephane Dion's response? Nothing. It's like he's not even there.

This liberal knew exactly what the liberals did, and even the conservatives at the time applauded what Martin did (google it). Martin HAD to do it. The mess left by Mulroney was unbelievable. And, the mess left by Harris had to be dealt with too! See a pattern here? Naw I doubt it.
Facts are facts. The conservatives, letf huge messes, both federally, and provincially. And, ironically, it was a liberal government that took the bull by the horns and did something about it.
Your heroes, have not done what the liberals -should- have done after fiscal health was returned, and that was to begin returning funding down to the municipal level.
Instead, they burned through in 2 years what was built up by chopping rich taxes like the gst (recall they RAISED taxes on the lowest bracket when they took office only to return that liberal tax cut later to brag about it...) so now, we are all treated to increases in taxes STILL, AGAIN! (including municipalities ACROSS the country not just your obsessively hated Miller...) that essentially nullifies your heroes tax breaks. And it will continue under your heroes. SO I gotta ask. WHAT tax breaks???
Who pays? The lower, and middle classes.
There is one silver lining in the whole thing. If Harper does get re elected, particularly to a majority, we just know he cant keep it in his pants and we'll all see the real Harper enough that Canadians will send him back either to minority, or opposition. Anyone objective enough, and has watched Harper and how reacts will see that.
I am absolutely willing to cope to the mistakes of the liberals (Martin dithers not giving the tax breaks and returning funding to transfers etc etc.) but the real question is, can you be objective enough, and remove the tory bum smoochers from your face long enough to see the hypocrisies of Flaherty. He's already trying to blame things on Ontario. Sorry Flaherty, Ontario remembers your methods, just like we remember Bob Rae. It goes both ways there pal.
I'm a bettin man. I say no you won't..
Mulroney did screw up when he failed to cut back the spending on the cradle to grave social services implemented by previous liberal minority government. They caved into the ndp and implemented programs that took us to the brink of bankruptcy when there was a turndown in the economy.
see look at you blaming someone else all the time. Do the conservatives take responsibility at some point here? Or is -everything- always the lefties fault. The lefties made them do it? Is this sort of 'the devil made me do it'?
"caved into the ndp", Walter Mulroney had a majority he could do whatever the hell he wanted to! But, didn't. That's the point! Mulroney chose to do what he did he wasn't coerced, so ultimately, when do the conservatives finally take responsibility for their actions? Trudeau absolutely had a part in ramping up the deficit, however, if you look at the numbers, it was Mulroney who allowed it to skyrocket more than Trudeau could have even hoped to allow.
Those are the facts. Now today, we have a tory government who appears to be following the same track record. If I'm wrong, I will be happy about it of course! But we have a finance minister, who already has failed Ontario.
It appears we will see Harper leading the country for a while, because Dion, even though he is likely a good individual, has so far failed to lead the liberals, and to define himself to the Canadian public. I fear he may be almost (almost I said) as bad as Martin was. Martin was a fantastic finance minister. But he was the worst prime minister since John Turner.
I am glad to see that you agree that Martin was a fanatic...but that aside check your history and you will see that the reference was to to the ndp when the LIBERALS has a minority.
Failed Ontario? I think it was Ontario that failed the tories and they are paying the price.
As far as whether it is always the "lefties" fault it is not always their fault but usually they are the catalyst that causes other to have solve the problems and those individuals sometimes take the wrong course of action.
That's all folks.....
