Given what we know about militantly anti-gay activists in the United States — the ones who sooner or later pop up in hotel rooms with young gay “assistants” — we are skeptical about the sincerity of Zakir Naik’s recommendation that homosexuals get the death penalty. The Indian Muslim televangelist doth protest a little too much, doesn’t he? One can only wonder what Christopher Hitchens-eqsue adventures the firebrand enjoyed back in his Madrassah days to prompt such a phobic and barbaric pronouncement.
Then again, gays aren’t the only people Mr. Naik wants to kill. He advocates death to apostates and Jews — and sings the praises of Osama bin Laden. He also counsels spousal abuse, and blames rape on Western clothing fashions.
In other words, he’s more or less a one-man exhibit for all that is wrong and retrograde about fundamentalist Islam — which is exactly why he should be allowed into this country. Read More »
