SENIORS MUST BE PROTECTED BUT...

Toronto Community Housing vows big changes on evictions

...a bigger problem, in my opinion, are those tenants whose "INCOME" exceeds the maximum on a regular basis, who provide lodgings for those involved in criminal activities, fail to maintain their "residences" to a minimum standard regarding health and safety and cleanliness, etc. TCH was never meant to compete with the marketplace but a stopgap for those who needed a hand up but a handout.

Would you qualify for an RGI apartment...

Rent at Toronto Community Housing

Toronto Community Housing is home to over 164,000 tenants living in communities across Toronto. Our housing portfolio includes more than 350 high-rise and low-rise apartment buildings.
If you are interested in making Toronto Community Housing your home, you can apply as a:
  1. Rent-geared-to-income (RGI) applicant
  2. Affordable rent applicant
  3. Market rent applicant

About RGI (subsidized rent):

  • About 93% of Toronto Community Housing tenants pay rent-geared-to-income(RGI). RGI is about 30 per cent of your gross income.
  • There is a waiting list for this type of housing. The waiting list is managed by Housing Connections.
If you are interested in subsidized housing, you must apply through Housing Connections.
You will not receive subsidized housing any faster by applying for and taking a market rent unit with Toronto Community Housing.

About affordable rent:

Toronto Community Housing has affordable units available for singles, families and seniors with lower incomes. Affordable units vary in size and rental rates.

  • Affordable units are not rent-geared-to-income(RGI) units. Rent is set at or below average market rent. There are income restrictions to qualify for an affordable rent unit.
  • To qualify for an affordable rental unit, an applicant's household annual gross income cannot exceed four times the annual rent of the unit you are applying for. Use the calculation guide(below) to see if you qualify for an affordable rental unit.

  •  These are sample calculations only
(use the monthly rental rate of the unit you're interested in renting to find out if you qualify).
For example: if you want to rent a bachelor unit with a monthly rent of $822, your household's maximum annual gross income must be equal to or less than $39,456 ($822 x 12 months x 4 = $39,456).

About Me

My photo
I lean to the right but I still have a heart and if I have a mission it is to respond to attacks on people not available to protect themselves and to point out the hypocrisy of the left at every opportunity.MY MAJOR GOAL IS HIGHLIGHT THE HYPOCRISY AND STUPIDITY OF THE LEFTISTS ON TORONTO CITY COUNCIL. Last word: In the final analysis this blog is a relief valve for my rants/raves.
