Step 2: Pressure McGoonty to Call An Immediate byelection.
Step 3: Hudak calls for a leadership convention.
Step 4: Kick provincial liberal butt.
John Ivison: Rocco Rossi’s political conversion hits Liberals where it hurts
Rocco Rossi clearly agrees with former British Labour leader Neil Kinnock’s belief that loyalty is a fine quality but, in excess, it fills political graveyards.
After all, this is the man who was the Liberal Party of Canada’s National Director; a man who claims Pierre Elliot Trudeau as his political hero and one who was instrumental in bringing Michael Ignatieff back to Canada. The former Toronto mayoral candidate has spent the past 30 years working on various Liberal campaigns and, until Tuesday, has never shown any love for the Conservatives. He even claimed John Tory made a mistake becoming leader of the Ontario PCs because “the Red Tory party that formed John doesn’t exist anymore.”
But while he believes it was the wrong party for Mr. Tory, he is less dogmatic when it comes to his own political leanings. Read More »

The National Post's John Ivison explains how and why Dalton McGuinty's Teflon coating may finally be wearing off, which is something we've been dying to see. It's just unfortunate we can't muster any enthusiasm whatsoever for Tim Hudak — and neither, polls suggest, can a lot of Ontarians. You certainly won't hear a principled argument against the harmonized sales tax from Mr. Hudak, Jim Coyle explains in the Toronto Star. Rather, he's relying on the well-known psychological principle that people vote against “greedy tax grabs” and “boondoggles” and the “gutless” politicians who foist them upon the hardworking taxpayer — as Sun Media's Christina Blizzard puts it, “an outrageous tax hike is still an outrageous tax hike” — whilst Mr. McGuinty, touchingly, continues to insist the HST is simply a good idea for Ontario's future. In this rare case, we're rooting for Mr. McGuinty, because it's about time that approach actually won an argument in this country.

TORONTO — New Progressive Conservative Leader Tim Hudak is giving one of his leadership rivals a plum job in the Opposition shadow cabinet.
Christine Elliott, who finished third at the Tories' June leadership convention, will become deputy PC leader and health critic.
Norm Miller, son of former premier Frank Miller, will take on the key role of finance critic as well as the job of chief whip, while Peter Shurman will be critic for economic development and trade.
Lisa Macleod will be the revenue critic, leading the Opposition's attack against the harmonized sales tax that takes effect next July.
Veteran Bob Runciman, who acted as interim leader after John Tory resigned in March until Hudak's election, will be the party's new house leader.
Hudak wants the Conservatives to focus their attacks on the Liberal's economic policies, and the party leader will take on the job of chair of the legislature's committee on spending estimates.
"We need a government that gets the fundamentals right and lay the foundations for a sustainable private sector job creation plan to bring jobs back to this province," Hudak said in a release.
Frank Klees, who finished second behind Hudak in the PC leadership race, will be infrastructure and transportation critic.
Randy Hillier, who came last in the leadership contest, will be the Tory critic for labour as well as northern development, mines and forestry.
Former deputy leader Elizabeth Witmer becomes the party's new education critic.
