It IS NOT the citizens of Toronto that are begging. The only thing the taxpayers are begging for is that Comrade Miller and the Politburo do what they are paid to do.....provide the essential services that we need and to make hard decisions when it comes to handling the money we do have.......
* staff reductions
* contracting out
* reducing grants
* cut operating expenses
* tell province and feds that the city will no longer pay for services that fall under their responsibilities; ie: immigration services, court services, housing, etc.

Mayor David Miller yesterday steadfastly defended his plans to impose new taxes, insisting Torontonians will be doing their part to help out the cash-strapped city by paying the levies.
City council will determine during the week of July 16 whether to hammer residents with a hefty land-transfer tax and a $60 vehicle registration fee.
Miller yesterday told members of the Sun's editorial board that Toronto needs more money to maintain municipal services and to improve transit.
"The people of Toronto will pay their part -- if these measures pass council -- through these (taxes) and then it's the turn of the provincial and federal governments," he said.
'POWERFUL POSITION'
"It puts us in a very powerful position. Nobody can say ever again, 'Toronto is begging. Toronto hasn't done its share,' because Torontonians will have done their share."
