It Is Not Law Yet And The Outrage Has Been Voluminous

Even Slaves Had More Value!Yesterday only one female MP, from the NDP stood up and asked about the new law in Afghanistan against women and what she did was blame the Conservative government and our troops. Canada summons Afghan ambassador over rape law

The federal government has officially complained to Afghanistan’s ambassador about a new law passed by the Afghan parliament that reportedly legalizes marital rape.A spokesperson for Foreign Affair Minister Lawrence Cannon says officials called in Afghan Ambassador Omar Samad to express Canada’s “deep concern.”
Cannon also met with Afghanistan’s foreign affairs and interior ministers at this week’s international meeting in The Hague to discuss the issue. And Canadian officials met with members of President Hamid Karzai’s Office in Kabul.
Critics say the new law is just an attempt by President Karzai to win the favour of Shia extremists ahead of the presidential election.
Journalist and women’s-rights activist Sally Armstrong, who has reported extensively on the state of women in Afghanistan, says Karzai is hoping to win the critical swing votes of conservative Shia men with this law.
“It’s a cheap piece of electioneering on the backs of the women and girls of the country, just so he can hang on to power,” Armstrong told Canada AM. “This is a man who has spoken about the rights of women… but he sold them out to get the extremist men vote.”
Armstrong points out that even though only a small percentage of Shia men would welcome the law, all women would be affected.
“They’re selling this as just for Shia women, but that’s nonsense. The content of Shia law is, it will affect every woman in the country,” she said.
