...they were trying to get laid! And their parents hadn't been manipulated yet to believe that their kids were "entitled" live in the basement of a house for which they had made no contribution!
Textbook: ‘hippies’ of the 1960s were ‘draft dodgers who were rude, didn’t bathe, and worshipped Satan’
Yeah, and…?
The offending hippie textbook, entitled America: The Land I Love and published by A Beka Books, a company affiliated with Pensacola Christian College, is only one of a number of textbooks produced by evangelical Christian publishers and used (at taxpayer expense) in voucher school programs in Louisiana (Gov. Bobby Jindal signed legislation last year which implemented one of the most ambitious voucher programs in the country).
***This guy also takes exception to the notion that Alfred Kinsey “was trying to normalize pedophilia,” without offering evidence to the contrary.
He does what liberals always do, which is to present the conservative viewpoint without comment, as self-evidently absurd.
He helpfully links to actual evidence, but mocks the sources.
Of course, I could counter that Kinsey was a pretty dubious source of “scientific” information himself, and that (non-perverts) like David Suzuki and Rachel Carson have both presented “science” falls far outside their areas of professional expertise, but that would be dismissed as hair-splitting.
Other than the bit about “Satan worship,” that description of hippies is accurate.
We’ve all read this Tom Wolfe essay by now, right?
(And even the “Satan worship” is forgivable, although it could be more nuanced.)
In fact, that is how hippies are lovingly portrayed in movies made by sympathetic Hollywood directors and producers.
