The concept of freedom of speech is philosophically simple and easy to understand. It provides an individual with the right to express their opinion or belief in a manner that they choose without the fear of forceful reprisals from other individuals or the state. Letter-writer Rene Leiva seems to have difficulty understanding this concept; he fails to grasp what freedom of speech does not provide.

It does not provide an individual with the right to express their opinions with someone else’s microphone, radio station, magazine, newspaper or wall space. Just as one individual has freedom of speech rights, the other individual has property rights. Read More »
