Public-service pension executives collect cash rewards for dismal performance

OTTAWA – Yet another group of pension executives were handsomely compensated with bonuses this year despite massive losses, a practice that is unfair and unwarranted, especially during a recession, says New Democrat Pensions Critic Wayne Marston (Hamilton East-Stoney Creek).

According to its annual report, the Public Service Pension Investment Board suffered a loss of $9.3 billion in the fiscal year ending on March 31, 2009. It was the second consecutive year the fund lost money, and the fifth time in nine years that the fund has underperformed against established policy benchmarks.

It is now abundantly clear that the core leadership of Canada’s so-called anti-war movement consists of obsessive Israel-haters, apologists for theocratic fascism, and admirers of the death cult Hamas and the totalitarian Hezbollah.

Nobody can accuse me of “smearing the peace movement” anymore. The leadership of the Canadian Peace Alliance, the Toronto Stop the War Coalition and other such groups now openly boasts of its progress in converting the “antiwar” movement in Canada into a joint venture with the Islamist far right.

Last Friday in Toronto, these people made a full and self-congratulatory accounting of themselves and the promises they made at the recent “anti-war” convergence in Cairo ("Towards an International Alliance Against Imperialism and Zionism"), attended by some of the world’s most foul jihadists, Islamists and Jewish-conspiracy fetishists.

Flawed Logic

Those Canadians who feel pulling out of Afghanistan will make us more secure from terrorist attacks are to put it simply are STUPID. They have forgotten something that that even young children know.....caving into a bully doesn't make you safer and the reality is it makes you more of a victim and causes you to be victimized more often.

Here’s the real story about the video: The barbaric Islamofascist leader called for an all-out jihad—within North America and Europe and globally — against anyone who is white and western, to be conducted by all nations’ minorities. He wants all of us white Canadians killed—by non-white Canadians—in a global jihad. He wants a global jihad. But the main thing is “he mocked Bush”.

A new poll suggests that two-thirds of Canadians think this country's presence in Afghanistan makes Canada more vulnerable to a terror attack.

Pollster Nik Nanos of SES Research told CTV News, "If there's one word to describe Canadians' view of the war in Afghanistan, it's concern.

"Canadians are concerned we're not putting in the resources to succeed, they are concerned the mission makes us more of a target and they are concerned about casualties," he said Sunday.

Let's see. What's big in the news this week?

Oh yes, Canada's auditor general says vicious killers may be walking our streets because crime labs are taking too long to process DNA samples.

Our country's soldiers are still fighting in Afghanistan, where nearly four dozen of them have given up their lives.

The poisons we spew into the environment are affecting our health and threatening an entire way of life in the north.

Ordinary citizens can't find a family doctor to treat their everyday ailments and provide them with annual checkups.

Gas prices are nearing all-time highs, making it tough for hard-pressed taxpayers to keep their budgets in balance and for businesses to survive.

Plenty of stuff for our federal politicians to get their teeth into, right?

Sorry, no.

In what may go down as one of the biggest mass brain cramps in Canadian history, the men and women we send to represent us on Parliament Hill -- and pay handsomely to do so -- have turned their attention from all of the above to concentrate on a two-word phrase that an NHL player may or may not have uttered two years ago.

Got that? May or may not have uttered. Linesman Michel Cormier insists Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan referred to him as a "(expletive) Frenchman" at the end of an NHL game in 2005. Doan says he didn't and a league inquiry found no grounds to punish the player.

In today's world of political correctness run amok, however, facts never get in the way of a good rant. A Commons committee has demanded Hockey Canada officials explain their choice of Doan as captain of the national team currently playing at the World Hockey Championship.

"We (francophones) have a right to be respected," fumed Quebec MP Marcel Proulx in demanding the investigation.

Never one to be outdone, NDP leader Jack Layton said the Doan controversy was "taking away from the enthusiasm that everybody wants to have" for the tournament.

Incredibly, the all-party committee bought into the nonsense and summoned representatives from Hockey Canada to appear and explain the choice of captain.

Sleep easy, Canadians. They stand on guard for thee.

Much Ado About Nothing

But it does give Layton and Bouchard much needed media attention......their court jester positions have been diminished by Elizabeth May.

Hockey officials to explain Doan's captaincy

Hockey Canada officials will be summoned by a parliamentary committee in Ottawa to explain why they chose Shane Doan as Team Canada captain at a world hockey tournament in Russia.

At issue is a derogatory remark Doan allegedly made toward a French-Canadian linesman during a game in December 2005.

Doan, a captain and forward with the NHL's Phoenix Coyotes, has denied making any slurs. The allegations have never been proven and Doan was cleared by the NHL after a league investigation into the incident.

But on Tuesday the Conservatives, Liberals, and NDP supported a Bloc Quebecois motion demanding that officials from Hockey Canada and Sport Canada -- two federally-funded but arm's length bodies -- appear before the House of Commons' Official Languages Committee on Thursday.
