And you did dick all to get costs under control. You didn't reduce staff, you didn't get rid of redundant properties or staff, you didn't hold the line on wage increases, you didn't seriously look at contracting out, etc. Basically you did not show you are fiscally responsible so why should anyone give you more money to piss down the drain?

Mayor in clash for cash
By ZEN RURYK, CITY HALL BUREAU CHIEF
What do Toronto residents have in common with Premier Dalton McGuinty and Prime Minister Stephen Harper?
Mayor David Miller wants to hit them all up for cash.
What differs, however, is the 2007 property tax hike that the city undoubtedly ends up inflicting on homeowners will likely be fairly modest -- probably about 3%.
He is seeking another $450 million annually to help his financially troubled government make ends meet.
In an end-of-year interview, Miller acknowledged that securing a new financial deal for the city is the one thing he hopes to make the most progress in the coming 12 months.
'SET UP TO FAIL'
It will be a make-or-break year to convince the senior levels of government to provide the city one cent of the GST or PST that's collected in Toronto, he said.
"Ultimately, Toronto -- structurally -- is set up to fail," said Miller in his second-floor City Hall office. "You can't have a government, whose expenses grow when the price of oil grows and the economy grows -- and its revenues don't. You can't. So, now is the time to fix that."
