How Much Does It Take To Catch Illegal Dumpers?

The New Sheriff, De Baeremaeker, is angry and upset but not angry or upset enough to get off his ass and go the the area at night and stop this illegal dumping. I don't understand why we need the local media to monitor city departments......

A rural lane, a lovely drive. . . and a pile of trash every week
Sewells Rd. is `the worst' for heaps of trash

There is one small area in Toronto that could pass for farmland in the middle of nowhere – so rural and isolated that it's hard to believe it still exists.

Its seclusion and absence of traffic is a tranquil contrast to the bustle of the city, and the main reason it is Toronto's top destination for swine looking to get rid of a load of garbage the easy way.

One of the city's best-kept secrets – Sewells Rd. – is fouled every night by huge amounts of garbage illegally dumped along the shoulder, so much the transportation department sends a crew once a week to clean it up.

We often get complaints about littering, bags of household garbage deposited in city trash containers and junk dumped in industrial areas.

But the scale of illegal dumping on Sewells is staggering. Loads of renovation waste big enough to fill a truck. Living room furniture, mattresses and kitchen tables. Auto body parts. Pressurized welding tanks. Computers and TVs. Bags of rotting food. Tires. Concrete. Fridges, stoves and other appliances.

"Yeah, we've even had kitchen sinks," said Dave Foster, a city worker involved in the cleanups.
