If They Want Freedom And Democracy...

...let them spill THEIR OWN BLOOD!

Terry Glavin: From Libya to Palestine, the future is there to be helped

As the Arab revolution has rolled out from Tunisia to Bahrain and the very real prospect of a failed-state humanitarian catastrophe looms from Tripoli to Sana’a, the rest of us are hectored and harried to just sit there, do what we’re told, and don’t even think about doing anything that some Islamist crackpot might want to call an imperialist military intervention.

“Thousands of Libyans will die if America and NATO enter Libya,” we are admonished. Who said that? It could have been German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle. It could have been the so-called Canadian Peace Alliance, or the alliance’s mentors in the Khomeinist tyranny in Tehran, or the usual American “troops out” retreads. That is what they all say, after all, but in this case it isn’t even Charlie Sheen. It is what Muammar Gaddafi says, and for good measure he’s tossing in the familiar spectre of Islamist terrorism as the thing we should worry about the most about the Arab uprisings.

Cuba’s tainted image

“Go Cuba,” a long-running billboard campaign on the streets of Toronto, features seductive images of foreign sunbathers relaxing on the island’s tranquil beaches. But no amount of glossy advertising can undo the negative publicity from Cuba’s shabby...

The RIGHT To Freedom Of Choice Was Not Suspended...

...and the choice I made was to forgo my planned trip to the "war zone" to take pictures and all of my activities over the weekend were planned to avoid traffic chaos and possible involvement in any of the "protest" activities. I decided I could live without the bragging rights of being at the G20 protests. My sympathies go out to the "innocents..."

Police aren't going to apologize

Toronto Police aren't saying sorry to those who were detained for marching in Sunday's protests or for their tactics of moving crowd control.

It’s not everyday one is witness to martial law on the streets of Toronto.

This is what anarchy looks like: Editorial

The masked, black-clad criminals who rioted in downtown Toronto Saturday, as they always intended to do, had no agenda other than violence and destruction.

Balancing civil liberty with public safety

Sun Jun 27 2010
The G20 summit weekend showed the tough balancing act between protecting civil liberties and keeping the public safe.

sick of the media injecting themselves into news stories - the most absurd thing I saw this afternoon was a Citytv reporter claiming to be trapped at Queen & Spadina, then minutes later leaving with his cameraman and security staff simply by asking the police to leave and showing his credentials. Make up your mind media, youre either objective reporters or youre the story - leave the journalizing for the bloggers and amateurs

Summits violence nothing new
The type of violent demonstrations that rocked downtown Toronto during the G20 summit have happened elsewhere during previous summits.

Sign Of The Times

Ed Anger says, 'Beware the Garage Sale Police!'

First they came for the crochet pot holders, and I said nothing..

It’s true: the government is starting to go after thrift shops, poking through all those stinky orange muumuus and dusty Readers Digests and chipped tea cups to see if anybody is selling “blacklisted” toys and other crap.

Hell, thrift shops are the only places anybody can afford to shop right now, and broke people are selling their stuff on their front lawns. But we can’t have THAT, can we? It looks way too much like unlicensed free enterprise and self-reliance!
