...in all fairness his sire, Taliban/Dressup Jack, made Toronto a nuclear free city and to his credit we haven't had a nuclear bomb dropped on the city.

Mean old Argos fold for Mike Layton

It’s the type of political correctness and publicity stunt we’ve come to expect from the Layton family.

From the horse’s ...
Re “Argos ad offensive?” (July 6): Coun. Mike Layton is a horse’s patoot. To somehow equate the Toronto Argos ad with domestic violence is moronic and absurd. Political correctness run amok. As most sports fans know, that kind of talk is aimed to intimidate visiting teams and create a winning atmosphere for the home side. If Comrade Layton was a sports fan, as he implies, he would surely understand this. All Layton is doing is trying to control free speech.

Don't Hold Your Breath...

National Post editorial board: NDP should give Gaza boat supporters the boot

The folks organizing the “Canadian Boat to Gaza” style themselves as humanitarians. In fact, they are radical anti-Israeli activists who have co-opted the language of humanitarianism to further their single-minded campaign against the Jewish state. We know this because these same folks have no interest in sending a “Boat to Syria,” where more than 1,000 protesters have been slaughtered in recent weeks. Nor are they interested in sending boats to Libya or Yemen. Just Israel, where the humanitarian toll has been much lighter. Thankfully, most mainstream Canadian politicians — including, apparently, NDP leader, Jack Layton — recognize such hateful anti-Israel attitudes for what they are.

The Boat to Gaza activists are participating in a boat convoy that will challenge Israel’s blockade of the Hamas-run Gaza Strip. Their stated goal is to bring humanitarian aid and “carry exports out of Gaza.” Donors already can send aid to Gaza through both Israel and Egypt, of course. But such transfers are subject to inspections meant to ensure that Hamas does not import armaments and explosives for slaughtering Jews. By seeking to undermine such security measures with their convoy, the Boat to Gaza activists are in effect allying themselves with Hamas terrorists. And no one should be surprised if the Israeli military deals with them in that spirit, even if it means risking a repeat of the lethal episode that unfolded under similar circumstances last year. Makes You Wonder If The Nickname Taliban Jack Is Justified?

Thomas Mulcair would not be the NDP’s first rabbit-hole burrower

It’s hard to know what to make of Thomas Mulcair’s odd comments about the existence or non-existence of Osama bin Laden photos. At best, he just seems confused. At worst, he seems to be giving voice to some kind of conspiracy theory. If the latter, he is not the first NDP MP to get sucked toward this rabbit hole: In 2008, NDP MP Libby Davies stood up in Parliament and read out this petition, which had been signed by over 500 citizens:
Scientific and eyewitness evidence shows that the 9/11 Commission Report is a fraudulent document and that elements within the US government were complicit in the murder of thousands of people on 9/11/2001. This event, the petition points out, brought Canada into the so-called “War on Terror,” [and] it has changed our domestic and foreign policies for the worse.

Something For Taliban Jack And His Ilk To consider...

Terry Glavin: Even the crackpots are beginning to notice

Canadian troops at attention for departure of Sapper Brian J. Collier, who was killed in a Improvised Explosive Device (IED) while on a foot patrol in Nakhoney south of Kandahar on 20 June 2010. He was the 17th combat engineer and 151st Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan.

For the very first time, something approaching a point of agreement: The Taliban have denounced this week’s international conference on Afghanistan’s future, saying the “vague and terrible agenda” shows that the U.S. and its allies intend to abandon the country and blame their ultimate defeat on the Afghan government.
To wit:
I. Barack Obama, apparently frustrated at the way the war is going, has reminded his national security advisers that while he was on the election campaign trail in 2008, he had advocated talking to America’s enemies.
II. The US Treasury Department has added three top Haqqani Network and Taliban leaders to the list of designated terrorists for their support of terror groups in Afghanistan. Read More »

It Seems Jack Is "WORLD" Leader Material....

Terry Glavin: Taliban Jack gets more than his due
Posted: February 01, 2010, 2:15 PM by NP Editor Filed under: Full Comment,Terry Glavin

Of course it would be both a farce and an irony of the most absurd kind, but what the hell. Now that Afghan President Hamid Karzai is pouring his old appeasement wine into a new bottle he calls "peace at any cost" and Afghanistan's feminists, secularists, human rights activists and democrats are once again overcome by that sickly sensation of having knives thrust into their backs, some people have become absolutely giddy with the idea that we should all thank Jack Layton for what has happened. Over at Macleans, under the headline Ahead Of His Time, Paul Wells writes: "Kudos to the NDP leader." Wells recommends his readers to his colleague Aaron Wherry, who has strung together a bunch of quotations from people in such a way as to imply that everyone had been far too beastly when they mocked 'Taliban Jack' in response to Layton's September, 2006 remark: “A comprehensive peace process has to bring all the combatants to the table.” The headline on Wherry's quote collection: And You All Laughed. Well, some people certainly did laugh, but can you blame them? Only days before, Layton's NDP had broken with every serious political party in the western hemisphere by adopting as its core Afghanistan policy: Support Our Troops, Bring 'em home. No one would stop laughing, so Layton tried to salvage things by doubling down with the notion that after an NDP government had spit in the face of the United Nations, Canada's envoys would be welcomed back to Afghanistan with their diplomatic pouches stuffed with patchouli oil, flipcharts, old Joan Baez records and instructions to subvert the authority of the embryonic Afghan republic by setting off into the hills in search of Taliban mullahs with whom to begin negotiations.
