A coalition of organizations in the state has been founded to fight the SEIU's heinous actions.

There is an Occupy Kingston, but it consists of one large tent and some clever signs (Mal-Wart is my favourite) on the downtown waterfront.

Capitalism’s spoiled children

The Occupy movement does not represent “the 99%,” as its defenders like to claim. They are not a cadre speaking up for the vast proportion of the population against the tyranny or greed of an imagined “1%.” Judging from the speakers I have seen and heard, either on news broadcasts or the multiple sites offering live-broadcast or YouTube coverage, the people in the various Occupy camps represent a petty sub-sample of the hard left; i.e., a range of angry students, homeless and their advocates, and – not insignificantly – some just outright strange people. Like the guy who asked for a moment of silence in “solidarity” with the man who earlier in the week fired shots at the White House and is now charged with trying to assassinate President Obama. The real 99% are surely not looking for solidarity with a potential assassin.

Another Cradle To Grave Fallacy Coming Home To Roost...

It Is A Matter Of Perspective

The Media MUST Share The Guilt...

Shed light on abuse cases
Thu Nov 17 2011
When things go wrong in Ontario’s nursing homes, the public should know. (0)

...Penn State has been in the media highlight constantly for the last 10 days but when it comes to abuse of residents the scenaerio is local media publishes an "expose," the Minister Of Health/Premier of the day has a media scrum vowing to implement safeguards -30- Solution: pass legislation that all media must setup a tip line on senior abuse and these are published on a daily basis with a followup within a certain period.

Nov 17, 2011 2:42 PM ET
Today’s Toronto Star features a sickening story about a 71-year-old woman raped in a nursing home. As awful as this is, the greater tragedy is that for every reported case like this, there no doubt are dozens more that never get reported.
Good on the Star for putting this on the front page. The truth of it is that editors often see little payback in senior-abuse stories, because society has an ageist double-standard in this area. If a child gets abused or harmed in daycare, it’s banner news across all media platforms. But the elder stuff is relegated to special “investigative” reports that win awards, but don’t pull in the readers in the way that child-centered stories do.
The reason: Most children are lucky enough to have a built-in constituency group — their parents. But the sort of elderly people who end up in homes where workers are abusive and incompetent (something that would never be tolerated in childcare facilities) often tend to be childless, or effectively abandoned by their family. (This was not the case in Danae Chambers’ case, I hasten to point out.)
This is one of the few areas where the only real solution is big government: To put more resources into elder-care facilities — including investigators who can snuff out the sort of deviants who assaulted Ms. Chambers, before they commit their crimes.

Bed sores, hunger and neglect: Elderly continue to suffer By Jesse McLean and Moira Welsh
Eight years after an Ontario government promise to revolutionize nursing home care, the elderly are still suffering abuse.

Pat Martin’s use of the F-bomb on Twitter has provoked the same kind of outraged reaction that greeted Kenneth Tynan, the English theatre critic, when he was the first person to drop the four-letter verb on British television 46 years ago.
Since then, the Brits have progressed to Malcolm Tucker in the parliamentary satire, The Thick of It. The NDP MP is a rank amateur in the art of great swearing, when compared to the fictional and fantastically profane spin doctor — check out Tucker’s Law on YouTube for a true professional at work.

Nease Says It All...

...the alternative when mommy/daddy kicks them out of their basement.

Hiding Among The 99%...

Ouch.

Let’s call them what they really are: the Cash-Out Generation. Over a century of prior generations invested forward, only to have this single generation cash it all in (and take highly leveraged loans for future generations to pay, when the cash wasn’t enough).
Excess wages ($85K/year for a Packard auto plant employee to shuttle parts around on a cart). Early retirement. Guaranteed pension payouts that no private investor could match. Public sector perks like nice parks, roads and environmental “feel good” rules that were funded by loans, not their own tax payments. Social security demands unmatched by their payments. Even their children’s education was something they shortchanged, demanding loans pay what they wouldn’t.
They’re the narcissistic parasites who cashed it all in. The hell with this Boomer mandate that social security be treated as an untouchable third rail. Given the demographic data on boomer wealth, it’s time to match social security payments to actuarial models based on actual payments in, without interest (remember Boomers, you’ve rejected the opportunity to have such funds invested and earning interest).
It’s either that or we’re going to cut the funding to the senior centers and let the Boomers experience accountability in their last years.

Learning To Use Chopsticks Is Simple...

A trade deal that Stephen Harper can’t refuse

Ivison Nov 14, 2011 – 6:39 PM ET Last Updated: Nov 15, 2011 8:55 AM

OTTAWA — Stephen Harper’s foreign policy has been governed by the desire to remain as friendly as possible with the United States, while still maintaining a fig leaf of self-respect.
In recent weeks, that policy has been called into question, as U.S. lawmakers have made a series of policy decisions – Buy America, the new entry fee for travellers, and the Keystone pipeline delay – that have left the impression that Canada’s clout in Washington is somewhere on a par with Turks and Caicos.
Yet, in Honolulu on the weekend, a remarkable shift in Canadian trade policy took place that may, in part, have been an attempt by U.S. President Barack Obama to mend fences with the Harper government.

Michael Moore explains why he’s different from other multi-millionaires

Nov 15, 2011 – 10:25 AM ET

Michael Moore has a lengthy justification for his wealth on the web site he uses to sell his books, films and himself.
It’s called “Life among the 1%”, a group of which Moore has been claiming he’s not a member. In it, he seems to confess that, yes, he is a rich guy after all. But not like other rich guys. He’s a rich guy who comes from a working class background, who scraped and scrambled for his money, and who cares. When he sold his first documentary, he recounts, he was paid $3 million and immediately shared the good news “with a group of factory workers, students and the unemployed in the middle of the downtown of my birthplace, Flint, Michigan.”
Not only that, he shared the money. He paid every cent of tax owing (no loopholes or avoidance strategies), set up a foundation to help others, spent a small fortune buying stuff and paying debts for others, and put the rest in a savings account (no investments or Wall Street gizmos). Read More »

SDA Cuts Thru The Crap...

Is "Totalitarian Leftist" Redundant?

For as long as I can remember SDA commenter 'ET' has eloquently and accurately described socialism and communism as 2-tier systems. Not two equal tiers though. More like a tall piece of cake with a thin layer of icing on it. In the political realm the icing constitutes the Leftist elitists who have proclaimed themselves more intelligent, more wise, more sophisticated, and generally just more cool than the average Joe. This cadre of elitists look down upon Joe with great condescension, convinced that he doesn't have the intellectual acumen to run his own life, make his own investments, and even, in some cases, to wipe his own tush.

One of the most outspoken of these elitists is Canadian Naomi Klein. She has some new things to say about Global Warming. James Delingpole has some things to say right back at her!

Different Strokes...

Hashtag of the Entitlement Generation

At first I thought that this was a joke. It's not. Here's the opening post:

Hi guys, I am a disillusioned traveller and even more disillusioned couchsurfer who is returning to Vancouver because of a complete lack of enthusiasm and lack of desire to be anywhere else, and have decided that after decades of paying taxes it is time for me to start collecting welfare. Anyone been on the dole? Know how to make a successful application?
It's now crystal clear why my hometown has become Loserville.
:-(

Update: A female Chinese-Canadian friend of mine moved to Vancouver from Singapore about 4 years ago. Publicly, she had something very interesting to say about the Occupy crowd:
Instead of camping out and protesting about the inequality and differences between the upper/middle/lower class income, protesters could spend those times looking for jobs. One job is not enough, do two jobs, three jobs, etc.. Do one full-time, and freelance at home, or do two part-times, and some freelance.. That's what I did during the one year I was looking for a full-time position. Economy's bad, is just an excuse. If one is willing to, there's all sorts of jobs around. When I first arrived in Vancouver, I would go to people's houses by myself and cleaned their houses for them as maids, and they would pay me in cash (while I was studying full-time). You would gradually work yourself up.. even if it means swallowing your pride or dignity, dirtying your hands, etc... Gradually, if you did a good job, people would recognise your efforts and help you out. It's all about the attitude.
Take a moment to envision the entitlement junkies in the Occupy tent cities and ask yourself what percentage of them would likely be willing to clean houses?

Shining The Light Of Reality On The OCCUPPiers...

No Surprises Here!

Chris Selley’s Full Pundit: The Toronto Star is the 99%!

And now, the airing of grievances

“The Occupy Toronto demonstrators don’t have a coherent point? How risible,” the Toronto Star‘s Heather Mallick pronounces. As it happens, wouldn’t you know it, the Occupiers share every single one of Mallick’s complaints about modern Canada! Just ask her! They’re worried about how hard it is to get a history degree “without sinking into debt, or being told that your degree is worthless because it won’t get you hired, even though you know in your heart that a degree in anything, particularly history, will make you better able to understand, cope with, and vote against the life the 99-percenters are stuck with.” They’re upset that Canada isn’t spending taxpayer money to build a pavilion at Expo 2012 in Korea (because they’re such a worldly bunch). And, of course, they are furious that Stephen Harper “has an anti-sex social agenda to mirror his economic one, and it’s pure Tea Party,” whatever that means. (From previous Mallick columns, we’d gathered that the Prime Minister wanted all women barefoot and pregnant at all times, and then to kill themselves at menopause so as not to burden the health-care system further. The talking points seem to have changed.)

Go read and tell us if we’re wrong, but we think Mallick has set a bold new standard in nonsensical blathering. And we mean this honestly: Big kudos to the too-often-too-staid Star for printing something this random. (The Globe‘s often-catatonic comment pages could certainly take a lesson.) But this column is just a crazy, useless mess. A firm nudge in the direction of coherence is very much in order.
