I ask that you pass this on to your local municipal politician. It is intended for the yahoos on Toronto City Council but all politicians can gain some insight into the fact that there is only one taxpayer and we are getting pissed off......
JOHNATHAN KAY ON TORONTO'S CITY COUNCIL AND "THE LAMEST POLITICAL SCANDAL IN CANADIAN HISTORY"
As would-be political scandals go, this has got to be the lamest in Canadian history: Two Toronto councillors are being investigated by the council’s executive committee for not spending enough of their office budgets.
If only they’d used more sticky notes, or purchased more expensive fax paper, they might have avoided suspicion. But alas, their frugality knew no bounds. According to official records, Councillor Doug Holyday filed for just $1,471 in office expenses last year. His colleague, Rob Ford, didn’t file any expenses. Apparently, this is raising eyebrows: The city’s executive committee is asking Toronto’s auditor-general and integrity commissioner to find out whether the two men might be breaking the rules by spending their own money.
We hope the City of Toronto gets to the bottom of this. If these men are smuggling in thumbtacks from home, or using “World’s Greatest Dad” coffee mugs they got for Father’s Day, then damn it, the good citizens of Toronto need to know! Nothing outrages taxpayers more than a politician who doesn’t spend every last penny to which he’s legally entitled.
