Six people were injured in a shootout in Toronto late Friday night. The incident took place at about 10 p.m. in a townhouse complex near Dufferin Road and Lawrence Avenue in North York in the west end of the city.
All of the injured are believed to be in their twenties and have been taken to local hospitals. One victim appears to have been hit in the head and is in critical condition. Another victim, believed to have been shot in the chest, is in serious condition.
Family members began arriving on the scene shortly after the gunblasts occurred, and police cordoned off the area. Investigators have not said what led to the incident and have released few details.
The shootings come on the same day as a Toronto judge ruled that seven suspects will stand trial in connection with the death of Jane Creba. Creba is the 15-year-old girl who was killed by a stray bullet on Yonge Street on Boxing Day 2005. One of the accused faces second degree murder charges in connection with the innocent bystander's death
