My relationship with garbage collectors in the city has always been unique. For years I have seen them bang my old recycling bins to the point where they completely destroyed some I had purchased only a couple of weeks before. Re:Not just any news, it's city news
Column, Nov. 11
I have just received the new publication Our Toronto and had a good look at it before making comments on the cost of it. There has been some talk about this added expense (I believe around $800,000 a year) to the City of Toronto. Many people, including the councillors, have complained that this is an unnecessary expense, especially in these difficult economic times.
Our Toronto is informative but I wonder if the media could have done the same thing without the cost. I have another idea to bring the cost of the publication down. Why not get some businesses to buy advertising space to help pay for it? There are 24 pages, but perhaps more pages could be added to allow some space for the ads. Just about every household in the city will get this publication and that should attract some businesses to advertise in it.
We need innovative ideas from our mayor and councillors. Why hasn't anybody thought of advertisements in this publication? Why is it that politicians only think of spending taxpayers' money?
