John Tory is running for mayor of Toronto.
The Toronto Sun has learned that Tory is expected to register as a mayoral candidate on Monday morning, setting the stage for an epic election showdown with Mayor Rob Ford.
The entrance of the former provincial Progressive Conservative leader and 2003 mayoral candidate into the mayor’s race will come the same day Councillor Karen Stintz is planning to register to run. Stintz — a centre-right candidate and former TTC chair — has committed to running regardless of whether Tory enters the election.
A senior adviser for Tory’s campaign speaking on background confirmed Tory will register ahead of Stintz’s planned 10 a.m. entry.
