All dressed up
Some critics say toning down Pride's sexiness is about gaining acceptance; others think it's caving in to prejudice

Bare flesh. Thrusting groins gyrating to the beat of pounding dance music. Dolled-up drag queens and a whole whack of leather-clad macho-men, all hosed down by phallic water guns. Get ready kids, the Pride Parade is coming to town!
Sound like fun? Well, apparently not to everybody. The parade's emphasis on exposed flesh and overt sexual provocativeness has become a cause of concern lately for organizers who worry about revellers being stereotyped as promiscuous perverts. Full-on nudity is officially discouraged these days, and men marching in their birthday suits have even been arrested in recent parades. Chris Killam, co-ordinator of the Pride's parade committee, explains their position.
