Fletcher takes fall
One might be prone to accuse socialist Councillor Paula Fletcher of regularly skating on thin ice when it concerns some of her wacky attempts to police pets, parks and the air we breathe.
But who'd figure the former Manitoba Communist party candidate and part-time vocalist would discover ice and skating to be her undoing.
Last Friday, while kicking off the outdoor skating season -- along with Mayor David Miller and her union sister councillor Janet Davis -- Fletcher took one kick too many, landing on her can and breaking her right wrist in three spots.
Yesterday, the good green member of Miller's team was sporting a fresh white cast -- already decorated with a few messages in green and a orange splotch of chili -- as well as fingers that were a decided black and blue.
Fletcher told me the cast, which adorns her writing arm, will need to be on for eight weeks. But knowing the councillor as I do, rest assured that this will not put her dogged efforts to police the world on ice. No, not one bit.
