An Islamist insurgent-run radio station in Somalia says it is awarding guns, bombs and books to three children in a Koran recital contest.

Andulus radio station is run by the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab militia.

The station announced Monday that the first prize winner in the contest received a rifle and $700, the second prize winner got a rifle and $500, and the third prize winner received two bombs.

All three children also received religious books.

Shariah law, the kind practiced in Iran received more than just lip service in a Canadian courtroom in recent days. It got room service from a unanimous decision by the Ontario Appeals Court that said a Muslim woman in the witness box has a right to wear a veil over her head. They - in a unanimous decision - overruled a lower court judge to insist that she abide by Canadian custom and remove her veil so that she could look the accused sexual abusers in the eye and look Canadian justice in the eye. The Ontario Appeals Court and that's sky high up in the Canadian Judicial food chain - these are the men and women who get a serious shot at Supreme Court Status - the Appeals Bench was unanimous in giving the lower court judge the back of the hand for making a Canadian decision, one that wasn't driven by the diversity agenda, the tolerance agenda, the agenda that says every tradition in the world is more worthy of more respect than our own tradition. The appeals court told the judge that not enough sensitivity was being shown to the woman's religious belief and that a compromise should have been sought, a compromise like perhaps agreeing if she takes her veil off to clear the courtroom of all men even if the judge is a man? Even if the prosecutor is a man?

Some useful fatwas:

A well-known Saudi religious scholar recently advised that a woman could become kin to a man—and thus be alone with him without violating the Islamic ban on gender mixing—by giving him five sips of her breast milk. This religious ruling, or fatwa, followed one in Somalia prohibiting Muslims from watching the soccer World Cup; one in Malaysia saying Muslims should not do yoga; two in Egypt, one saying married couples should not disrobe when having sex and the other one labeling Facebook users sinners; and one in Pakistan forbidding polio vaccination because it’s a Western plot to harm Muslims.

Yes, these rulings are certainly fascinating, but what's the real issue?

The purposes of some of these fatwas, which are supposed to be based in the knowledge and wisdom of those who issue them, are quite disturbing and are tarnishing the image of Islam. For Muslim governments, this expansion of fatwa-issuing is becoming a growing concern.

Tarnishing the image? Au contraire, I'd say these fatwas are downright entertaining. It's the beheadings and bombings of infidels that is tarnishing the image of Islam.

A woman protests on Aug. 3 as New York City's Landmarks Preservation Commission rules in favour of demolishing a 152-year-old building, potentially clearing the way for a controversial Islamic centre.

The lower Manhattan mosque has provoked many doubts and suspicions. Here’s mine: the whole thing is a phony-baloney publicity stunt by a developer in search of project financing.
Maybe an old joke about the development industry can set the stage:
A developer bursts through the door of the office bubbling with good news for his partner: “Hey Sheldon — I had to look at photographs of old man Weinstein’s grandchildren for two hours, but we’ve finally got a deal. He agreed to sell us the Maple Street land assembly, and I knocked the price down to $20-million!”
Sheldon answers: “That’s fabulous news — great work — congratulations!”
“Yeah, well there is some bad news too. He needs $10,000 in cash.”
OK, bear that in mind as you read this very important report by Isabel Vincent and Melissa Klein in the New York Post.
The site for the proposed Cordoba Islamic Center is now occupied by two buildings on Park Place in New York: one the now-famous Burlington Coat factory; the other an adjoining property that used to function as a Con Edison substation. The mosque developers are often said to own both buildings. That turns out to be not exactly true.

Earlier today, I blogged about the violent “activists” who provoked the deadly treatment they got at the hands of Israel’s military off the coast of Gaza. Since then, we’ve learned that one of the activists participating in the six-boat flotilla is Kevin Neish, a 53-year-old pro-Palestinian activist from Victoria, B.C.
For what it’s worth, Neish — unlike the violent thugs who sparked the confrontation with the Israelis — seems to have been a genuine pacifist. Here’s a snippet of an interview he gave, from Crete, with Rabble.ca about the (then) upcoming flotilla:

[My role on the boat is that] I’m supposed to delay the [Israeli] commandos enough — non-violently, of course — that [a] film crew can get their footage … I’ve been tasked with basically standing in a passageway that leads to the upper deck, and being in the way, non-violently.

I hope he wasn’t hurt in the encounter. If his words here are sincere, then he seems to have been duped by the violent elements in the Free Gaza convoy as much as everyone else.

My husband-blogger assaulted by union executive at anti-Israel rally, Toronto (scroll down for updates) 

 

My husband Arnie blogs as BlazingCatFur, and frequently videotapes anti-Israeli demonstrations here in Toronto.

This morning, he taped footage of a demonstration against Benyamin Netanyahu’s visit to the city. The demo was co-sponsored by taxpayer funded Palestine House.

While filming a public demonstration on a public sidewalk, my husband was approached by Ali Mallah -- the Vice President of the Canadian Arab Federation, and high ranking member of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE)/Canadian Labour Congress.

Mallah recognized my husband, crossed the street, and verbally and physically assaulted him.

Arnie was unhurt.

This is the latest in a series of shameless public attacks by "peaceful" Muslims and their sympathizers against pro-Israeli Canadians.

If you object to "public employees" and taxpayer funded "community centers" intimidating ordinary citizens, please pass around this video, and contact your Member of Parliament.

So that was just a short message from one Muslim woman, but there are thousands, hundreds and thousands like me across the world and across Europe who will make a stand. And we will never ever remove our Islamic dress. Ever. So you have a war on your hands and if that’s what you want, that’s what you asked for.

Well, I certainly hope after that demonstration they remembered to gather up their trash…

Three members of a British family visiting Pakistan were shot dead by their relatives yesterday in a dispute over an arranged marriage between cousins.
Mohammad Yousaf, 51, his wife Parviaz, 49, and their daughter, Tania, 23, from Nelson, in Lancashire, were killed in the eastern city of Gujrat when tensions over the breakdown of the marriage between their eldest son and their niece ended in tragedy.
The marriage finished about a year ago but the wife’s brother — who is also Mr Yousaf’s nephew — is believed to have harboured a grudge that his sister was being divorced.

Let this be a lesson: Selling your daughter into sex slavery to a first cousin probably isn’t going to be a pretty as you imagine it.

It has been a week for murderers, hypocrites and heroes. In Britain a group of Muslim doctors and medical students have been arrested in connection with a series of attempts to murder thousands of innocent people waiting to board aircraft or, sin of sins, dancing in a club.

Commentators were incredulous that people of science sworn to do none harm should apparently act thus. Fools. The doctors' unions in Egypt and Jordan are dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood, a fascist group that preaches jihad. The second in command of Al Qaida is a pediatrician and one of the founders of Hamas a surgeon.

The idea that poverty and oppression produce psychotic mass murderers has always been a patronizing illusion. Egyptian universities churn out fundamentalist fanatics, the Saudi middle class is riddled with extremism.

But none of this would happen, argue the appeasers, if America and Israel left the Middle East alone. Tell this to the Christians of Egypt, Syria, Palestine and North Africa. They had done nothing to provoke the Islamic armies that invaded their countries, imposed Muslim rule, converted at sword-point and humiliated those who remained Christian and Jewish as second-class citizens.

Yet still in the west we hear the usual moans. There is fundamentalism in all religions, they say, and we should be careful not to judge. Well, next time I'm at the airport I'll make sure to look around for any Christian, Jewish or Buddhist fundamentalists who are obsessed with slaughtering me and my children.

A quick look at the deck and it all makes sense! A woman is worth 8 points and thus muslims outrank women on the victimhood scale. Clearly, complaints about muslim brutality towards women are unwarranted, since muslims are 4 points more valuable than women.

On the other hand, blacks outrank muslims by two and thus a military intervention to save Africans from muslim attacks in Darfur is not another imperilaist Western oil war, but is entirely justified in the leftist mind.

Finally, muslim attacks on innocent muslims in Iraq leaves us with the sum of zero since the muslims cancel out. Thus, the Iraq War has no value in the leftist mind and hence there are no complaints about terrorist attocities in connection with it.

See? It's math.

Giving Comfort & Freedom To The Enemy

So-called Anti-War Activists Join the Jihad...

It's one thing being a critic of George Bush and the War in Iraq - but for the anti-war left to actually ally themselves with the Jihad is just contempible....

This time, I'm here to say Canada's main "antiwar" groups have finally, fully, and openly exposed themselves to be active participants in that war. And they're on the side of the enemy.

Two months ago, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, the key leaders of the Canadian Peace Alliance, the War Resisters Support Group, and the Toronto Stop the War Coalition joined Iranian diplomats and theocrats in celebration of the 28th anniversary of the Khomeinist revolution in Iran.

Cohosted by the Iranian Embassy, the anniversary celebration was, by all accounts, a happy and pleasant affair. There was singing and speeches, and on the same day, back in Iran the Khomeinist theocracy's defence minister was announcing the production of a new 2,000-kilometre-range missile.

Last month, about 20 Canadian "antiwar" leaders answered the call of the Canadian Peace Alliance and assembled in Cairo, Egypt, for a strategy session with some of the world's most foul jihadists. Among them were senior officers from Hezbollah, Iran's Lebanese client statelet that pioneered the current savagery of Islamist suicide bombings, and Hamas, the death cult whose stabbings, shootings, and explosions have taken the lives of hundreds of innocent Palestinians and Israelis in recent years.

According to the Egyptian English-language weekly Al-Ahram, one of the Canadian Peace Alliance delegates at the Cairo conference, Toronto's James Clark, told the gathering that Canadian activists use incidents of Islamophobia in this country to "educate and mobilize people". Clark is reported to have uttered the lie that the Canadian government actively and deliberately enflames Islamophobia in order to wage war in Muslim countries. Clark vowed that "the Canadian peace movement, inspired by the Arab resistance in Lebanon and Iraq, would work with Muslims to defeat imperialism."

The Reuters news agency reported that a surprise guest at the Cairo conference was a certain Abu Omar, a shadowy cleric who fled Egypt several years ago after the government outlawed and suppressed his group, Jamaat al-Islamiya, for waging a campaign of tourist murders and assassinations through the 1990s. Jamaat al-Islamiya's most memorable contribution to the struggle for social justice was a 1997 machine-gunning and stabbing spree at the Temple of Hatshepsut in Luxor that left 71 innocents dead, most of them foreign sightseers. Last August, al-Qaeda deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahiri declared Jamaat al-Islamiya an al-Qaeda subsidiary.
