Have You Apologized to Muslims Yet?
If you're an American, don't worry, Congressman Mike Quigley has already apologized on your behalf. Perhaps you'd like to send him a thank you note? :-)
In case it isn't crystal clear, Quigley isn't actually apologizing on behalf of himself. His "apology" is a "too clever by half" condemnation of conservative Americans. His "apology" is as insincere and phoney as he is.
Never forget, one of the beautiful things about being on the Left is never having to apologize for one's own words & actions. After all, if you're a member of the Cult of Leftism then you can do no wrong. if anyone ever is inadvertently offended then there clearly must have been a "misunderstanding".

On Monday, three Muslim women spoke at the Heliconian Hall in downtown Toronto at an event titled “Islamism’s war against women.” Journalist and activist Raheel Raza argued that the legal code known as Shariah has no basis in religion — but rather is a political artifice created as a means to leverage the Islamic faith into a tool for totalitarians and misogynists. Marina Nemat, an Iranian-Canadian woman who was tortured at Tehran’s Evin prison as a teenager, described how Iran’s revolutionaries exploited Islamist fervor to transform her pluralistic, cosmopolitan nation into a medieval prison state. Finally, broadcaster/activist Natasha Fatah lamented that even now, and even in Canada, we often are blind to Islamism’s true face: In the name of “tolerance,” we permit the sort of degradation of Muslim girls women that would be completely unacceptable if perpetrated against whites.
The crowd at the Heliconian Hall, consisting of people of many different faiths, plainly was inspired by what they heard. And many had a simple question: What can ordinary Canadians do to help ensure that Islamist values do not take root in Canada?
The answer: Voters should tell politicians — the ones knocking on doors in the lead-up to the Oct. 6 Ontario election, for example — that this is an issue they will vote on.
What are the issues facing young Muslims in Canada?
Researcher Rizwan Mohammad and student Aisha Raja take your questions about some of the issues involving young Muslims in Canada, and their relationships with each other, with their families, and with non-Muslims.

They talk about [Muslims] the way people used to talk about blacks or Catholics and the way that our opponents talk about Jews. You can’t attack shrill anti-Zionists who veer into antisemitism on one hand and then on the other hand say, ‘Oh, by the way, the Muslims are breeding like rabbits and aren’t they filthy.’ It’s just wrong…. Some things are just beyond the pale. I don’t think these people should be thrown in jail or slapped with Human Rights Commissions sanctions, but they do deserve our criticism.”

I’ve never written “the Muslims are breeding like rabbits and aren’t they filthy” — so OBVIOUSLY he can’t possibly be talking about me.
Ha ha.
But let’s look at what “people used to say”.
Let’s see:
What did people “used to say” (and still do) about Catholics, for example?
Well, Chick Comics would have you believe the Jesuits killed Abe Lincoln. Pretty funny.
But were “nativists” right that Irish Catholic immigrants were clannish, ignorant, drunken wife beaters who got into too many fights?
That “the Irish are breeding like rabbits and aren’t they filthy”?

In general, the Canadian Muslim population is different from its American counterpart. Most Canadian Muslims emigrated to Canada from East Africa, India, Pakistan and other Commonwealth countries; and they did so earlier than the main influx of foreign-born Muslims to the United States. Most came to Canada prior to the onset of significant radicalization of South Asian Muslims in their countries of origin. Newcomers to Canada include many Ismaili and other Shia Muslims, whose intellectual diversity is well-known.
By contrast, numerous Arab, South Asian and Somali Muslims who arrived in the United States over the past two-and-a-half decades have brought with them a culture of grievance, especially against Israel and India but also against the United States itself, even though it has welcomed and assisted them. (These pathologies are, I am pleased to report, largely absent from the communities of Bosnian and Albanian Muslims that arrived in the United States during the recent Balkan wars.)
Dominance over American Islam by Saudi- and Pakistani-backed radical networks has rendered American Muslims confused and passive in the face of radicalism and mediocre in their religious development. This is generally not the case with Canadian Muslims. Read More »

Hyphenation Of Cultures Continues...
The 'Moderate Muslim' Litmus Tests
Barry Rubin writes:There are relatively few "moderate Muslims" but there are millions of Muslims who are relatively moderate.***
The former refers to people whose main identity is as a Muslim and who explicitly want to reform normative Islam.
In contrast, the latter are those who are equally Muslim but have their primary identity formed by ethnic (Turkish, Arab, Persian, Kurd, Berber, etc.) or national (Egyptian, Indonesian, Indian, Moroccan) loyalty.
Your average Anglo-Saxon Westerner, be he "conservative" or liberal, cannot or will not accept the simple fact that billions of people "have their primary identity formed by ethnic or national loyalty" -- what used to be called "race."
While these Westerners, right and left, are busily burnishing their images as "citizens of the world," millions of these billions giggle and plot their demise.
These Ango Saxon Westerners think their multicultural co-workers share their "enlightened" views, and will side with them when the time comes.
They are mostly mistaken.
This fault line doesn't always look like you'd expect, by the way.
I once worked at a very famous charitable organization that, being based in Toronto, boasted a large staff representing an array of races and faiths.
And, this being Toronto, it came up at some meeting or other that one group we'd be funding that year served the supposed "needs" of supposed "homeless" "transsexuals."
Around the very large boardroom table, gasps and tsks could be (just barely) heard.
They all came from my Asian and black female co-workers, who, after the meeting, were seen whispering to each other, arms crossed, their heads tilting around, birdlike, to see if anyone important could hear them.
At a later meeting -- one limited to the white people who actually made the decisions (and me) -- there was much smug amusement at the silly, backward reactions by those silly, backward co-workers.
This was a few years ago, before Toronto officially became a white minority, immigrant majority city.
The shift in the way tens of millions of dollars in charitable donations will be allocated across Toronto will be fascinating to watch (hopefully from a very great distance...) over the next ten or twenty years.
Asians do not approve of putting old people into nursing homes, for example. And they don't have a lot of time for "the homeless."
I doubt a lot of the city's Muslims feel like giving money to battered women's shelters.
The examples will multiply.
And no one will talk about it, of course.
