City Hall’s 2010 Capital Budget is $2.4 billion. Here’s a partial list of how that money is being spent:TRANSIT
- 360 new subway cars
- 390 new TTC buses
- 204 low-floor light rail vehicles
- Union station upgrade
- Sheppard East LRT line *
- Bus rapid transit line (Downsview Station-York University)*
ROADS
- Rehabilitate 150 bridges and structures
- Maintain 800 km of roads
- Get rid of Dufferin jog, replace with intersection *
- Redevelop Six Points Interchange *
- Construct 380 km bike lanes*
POLICE
- New 11 Division by 2011
- New 14 Division by 2012
- Radio communication system for police, EMS, fire
- Complete restoration of Beaches Heritage Fire Hall *
- Build four ambulance stations (Bathurst and York Downs, Chaplin Cres., York-South Weston, and Pape Ave.)
PARKS/PUBLIC SPACES
- Nathan Phillips Square makeover *
- Union Station update
- Redevelop St. Lawrence Market North*
- Revitalize Guild Inn, Black Creek Pioneer Village, John St. Roundhouse *
- Complete Don River Park on West Don Lands
LIBRARIES
- Renovate York Woods, Mount Dennis and Fairview libraries
- Complete Malvern District Library expansion
- Continue construction on Scarborough Centre Neighbourhood Library
- Renovate Toronto Reference Library
COMMUNITY/REC SERVICES
- Begin construction of Oriole Park playground and Regent Park pool
- Safety retrofits on two Toronto Island ferries
The Fixer: Toronto's darkest road
A highway stretch of Kingston Rd. shrouded in darkness every night is unlikely to get lit up any time soon, even though it seems like a bright idea.
Miller goes deeper into the red
Two years ago, Mayor David Miller dismissed a plan put together by Coun. Mike Del Grande and me to cut $440.9 million from that year's operating budget.
