...when I have to agree with Dressup Jack but what is even more strange is the lack of agreement among the leftists in Ottawa. An 8% ripoff for Canadians
Next summer, if the Harper Conservatives and McGuinty Liberals have their way, a haircut will cost you 8% more. Burying a loved one will cost 8% more. Vitamins, a pair of sneakers, postage stamps, vet fees for your dog, and an oil change for your car will all cost 8% more. Even the price of gas will go up.
HST support in the billions
When you watch the firestorm of anger ignited by provincial Finance Minister Dwight Duncan's plan to harmonize the PST and the GST, you can't help wonder just why the government pushed ahead with such an unpopular measure.
Letters to the Editor
Re "Dalton, let's talk about that new tax" (Lisa MacLeod, Dec. 1): When did the Ontario PC party stop being conservative? It's bizarre that the planned tax harmonization in Ontario, which is being paid for by the federal Conservative party and endorsed by almost every right-of-centre think tank and economist in the country, is being fought tooth and nail by the Ontario PC party. It's almost surreal to watch Tim Hudak and Lisa MacLeod following NDP Leader Andrea Horwath from protest to protest, parroting her comments as they stand shoulder-to-shoulder at the same podium.
